AR Plates and Strips from Specialty Steel
Abrasion resistant (AR) steel plates are perfect for applications where a lot of wear and tear is expected. Industries like construction and manufacturing require high-quality steel to ensure longevity and reliability. Specialty Steel offers AR plate steel in multiple varieties, including AR400 steel plates and AR500 steel plates, to suit unique industrial needs.
AR Steel Plate Properties and Common Applications
Thru hardening ensures our AR400 and AR500 steel plates are as tough and resilient as possible. An AR400 steel plate has a hardness rating between 360/440 BHN with a nominal hardness of 400 BHN. This plate’s operating temperature is 400 degrees F.
By comparison, an AR500 wear plate has a hardness between 470-540 BHN and a nominal hardness of 500 BHN. This plate also comes in more thicknesses, ranging from ¼” to two inches.
It is important to note that the chemical composition from AR plate to plate can vary slightly from one batch to the next. Also, an abrasion resistant steel plate is designed to be a liner, not to be used for self-supporting structures or lifting equipment.
Product Categories for AR Steel Plates
At Specialty Steel, we only offer AR400 and AR500 steel plates and strips. Each piece is rigorously tested and inspected for quality and impact resistance.
AR500 Steel Plates
The chemical composition of this plate consists of carbon, manganese, silicon, chromium, and molybdenum to ensure toughness and resilience. AR500 is a fantastic wear resistant steel that works in a wide range of industrial applications.
AR500 Applications
- Construction – AR500 steel is relatively lightweight, making it ideal for construction projects where weight is a factor, like aeronautics.
- Mining – Thanks to its high abrasion and impact resistance, AR500 steel handles ore and other mining operations well.
- Hauling – AR500 steel can work well as a liner for truck beds and other hauling equipment, especially for heavy industry.
AR400 Steel Plates
If you’re looking for top-tier steel plating, AR400 wear plates are a step up from AR500. The chemical composition is slightly different, making this steel less prone to cracking and other wear and tear. Also, you can get it in more thicknesses, ranging from ⅛” to four inches. This versatility makes AR400 steel perfect for applications where malleability and weldability are crucial.
AR400 Applications
- Interior Liners – Because AR400 steel can come in thinner plates, it’s more versatile than AR500. This steel works well for dump trucks, hoppers, cement mixer drums and fins, and storage bins that experience a lot of wear and tear.
- Mining – Because of its extreme abrasion and cracking resistance, AR400 steel works well for many mining applications.
- Cladding – AR400 steel is ideal for flooring and equipment housing because it endures so much wear and tear from people and machinery.
AR400 Wear Bar & Strips
We provide top quality AR400 strips and wear bars in thicknesses from 1/8″ to 1″, available in 10/12 ft and 20/24 ft lengths. This abrasion-resistant, thru-hardened alloy has a typical hardness range of 400-440 BHN. Common applications include material handling equipment, mining machinery, and construction equipment.
